Soaring Through The Sky – Dunhuang Art Exhibition

From 31 March to 15 May, step into the enchanting world of Dunhuang at NorthTec's Geoff Wilson Gallery in Whangārei. Discover the legendary treasures of the Dunhuang culture and ancient Silk Road, where history, spirituality and artistry come to life in a breathtaking showcase of timeless masterpieces.
Dunhuang, located in north-western China, is an important historical and cultural city with rich heritage, situated on the edge of the Gobi Desert at an important crossroads on the ancient Silk Road trading route. The name 'Dunhuang', means to 'to flourish and prosper,' giving an indication of the town's prominence in ancient China.
The art featured is from the Mogao Caves, one of China's most famous UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The complex consists of 492 Buddhist cave temples that were carved into the cliffs of the Mingsha Mountain over 1,000 years ago.
