About us
NorthTec is the region's largest provider of tertiary education, with multiple campuses and learning centres from Whangārei to our northernmost site in Kaitaia. NorthTec remains the only Northland-based Tertiary Education Institute (TEI) that provides programmes from foundation to degree level.
A Brief History of NorthTec
We began in 1978 as the Northland Community College with a staff of 10 tutors and have now grown to become Te Tai Tokerau’s largest provider of tertiary and vocational education. In 1987 Northland Community College changed its name to Northland Polytechnic [Tai Tokerau Wānanga] and to NorthTec [Tai Tokerau Wānanga] in June 2006.
Our largest campus is based at Raumanga, Whangārei, with the Future Trades campus in Dyer Street, and a Learning Centre in Kensington Stadium. There are also regional campuses in Kerikeri, Ngāwhā and Kaitaia. We also have some online courses, providing education to people across the whole motu. NorthTec works in collaboration with other education providers, industry, iwi, and charitable trusts to provide industry specific,up-to-date training for all Te Tai Tokerau.
NorthTec is a business division of Te Pūkenga – New Zealand Institute of Skills and Technology
